The Task

At the HKW West plant in Frankfurt, Mainova is replacing coal firing with two hydrogen-capable gas turbines. A new building is going up on the site, and a heat storage facility is planned on the area of the former coal yard.

For the project communication, it had to be shown early on how the new building fits into the existing site and into the city skyline, by day as well as by night.

To do this, I placed the new plant into actual drone footage of the site, true to location and at different times of day. A video on the development of the site followed later. Other parts of my work are produced for internal discussions and remain unpublished.

Three views of the site, each as unedited drone footage and as a photomontage with the new plant added. The night view shows how the building reads in the city skyline after dark.

A video on the development of the site was produced alongside. It combines drone footage of the area with on-screen information about the individual measures and shows visualisations of the planned facilities at several points. The excerpt shown here covers the sections on the new plant and the heat storage facility on the former coal yard.
